3.0 Duramax Engine

For the 2022 model year, the turbocharged 3.0L I6 LM2 diesel Duramax engine is being replaced by the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 diesel Duramax engine from GM. The new engine has a rating of 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque, which is a 10-percent improvement in power and a 7.6-percent increase in torque over the previous turbocharged 3.0L I6 LM2 diesel Duramax engine’s 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

The new 3.0L I6 LZ0 diesel Duramax engine from GM has enhanced steel pistons and a reworked combustion bowl, as well as a retuned turbocharger compressor, new fuel injectors, and improved temperature management, to name a few of the more significant improvements.

Selected 2023 Chevy Silverado model levels, including Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country, will be equipped with the new GM turbocharged 3.0L I6 LZ0 diesel Duramax engine. For retail consumers, the new Duramax diesel engine will only pair with the GM 10-speed automatic transmission. The GM Flint Engine Operations factory in Michigan will be used for engine assembly, and availability is anticipated to start by the end of the 2022 calendar year.
